Joe Biden’s Department of Justice is suing Arizona to prevent a law requiring all voters to provide proof of citizenship to vote.
The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Arizona Republicans passed HB2492, introduced by State Rep. Jake Hoffman, which requires that voters show prove US Citizenship to register to vote in any election. This law also applies to Federal Only voters who are not required to show proof of citizenship when registering to vote. The bill was signed into law by the Governor in March.

In its lawsuit, DOJ argues that Arizona’s H.B. 2492 bill — which takes effect in January — is a ”textbook violation of the National Voter Registration Act,” or NVRA, which dates back to 1993.
DOJ also argues that the Arizona law violates terms of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
DOJ also argues that H.B. 2492 also runs afoul of a 2013 Supreme Court ruling stemming from another Arizona lawsuit, which dictated that state officials could not impose proof-of-citizenship requirements on those who register to vote, using the federal form.
Federal law prohibits noncitizens from voting in federal elections.
This bill is lawful and necessary to secure our elections.
