Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago- Just Another Weekend in Chicago- 19 Shot, 2 Fatalities Friday Night

written by July 31, 2022

Lori Lightfoot’s progressive gun-control-laden Chicago continues down a violent path.  On Friday night, and into early Saturday morning, 19 people were shot resulting in two fatalities.

ABC Eyewitness News 7 Reported:

A man was killed and two others were critically wounded in a shooting early Saturday in Gresham on the Far South Side. They were stopped at a red light in the 2000 block of West 87th Street when two people in a black Sedan pulled up and fired at least 40 shots about 1:10 a.m., Chicago police said. A man, 31, was shot in the head and was transported to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, police said. A woman, 25, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the same hospital. She was listed in critical condition, police said. Another man, 22, was shot multiple times in the torso and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, police said. No one was in custody.

A man was fatally shot early Saturday morning in Logan Square. The man, 31, was standing near a sidewalk in the 1800 block of North Milwaukee Avenue when someone in a a vehicle approached him and opened fire around 1:40 a.m., Chicago police said. He suffered a gunshot wound in the chest and was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. No one was in custody. Detectives are investigating the area.

The Chicago Sun Times  provides a database, updated daily,  listing the names of everyone killed by another person in the city of Chicago.

Mayor Lightfoot spends her time raging against conservatives but seems uninterested in addressing violence in the Windy City.

This toxic atmosphere is not only unsafe for Chicago residents, it is impacting the City’s economy.  In June, the Hedge Fund Citadel announced their move to Miami.

CBS News reported:

In a note to employees at Citadel, Griffin announced he already has moved his family to Miami, and will soon be bringing the company with him, though some Citadel employees will remain in Chicago.

“Chicago will continue to be important to the future of Citadel, as many of our colleagues have deep ties to Illinois. Over the past year, however, many of our Chicago teams have asked to relocate to Miami, New York and our other offices around the world,” Griffin wrote. “We recognize that the choice of where to call home involves personal, family, school and other considerations, and we will provide comprehensive support to meet the needs of our teams.”

A spokesperson points to Florida’s business-friendly climate and Chicago’s violence as reasons for the move, saying, “talent wants to live in cities where they feel safe.”

According to a company spokesman, Citadel has about 1,000 employees in Chicago. It’s unclear how many of them will be relocating.

Citadel Securities, a related e-trading firm also owned by Griffin, also will be making the move to Miami.

Also in June, Caterpillar announced plans to move their headquarters to Texas.

Marketwatch reported:

Caterpillar Inc. said Tuesday it will move its global headquarters from Illinois to an existing divisional office in Irving, Texas, in the Dallas–Forth Worth area, in another blow to metropolitan Chicago, which last month lost the Boeing Co. headquarters.

The move is “in the best strategic interest of the company,” Chief Executive Jim Umpleby said in a statement. The heavy-machinery maker has had a presence in Texas since the 1960s, it said.

In May, Boeing, the world’s largest aerospace company,  announced plans to move its global headquarters from Chicago to Arlington, Virginia.

Corporations are fleeing the violence riddled city, leaving its residents in an even more precarious position.
