UPDATE: T-Mobile for Business Will Place Unvaccinated Employees on Unpaid Leave Earlier than the Rest of the Company

On Friday, TGP reported on an intimidating email sent by T-mobile’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Deeanne King, She/Her/Hers based on the email.

According to the email, employees who failed to show proof of first vaccination by February 21 will be placed on unpaid leave. Now, another email was sent to TGP on what is happening within T-Mobile for Business (TFB), the business organization side of T-Mobile.

According to our source, President of TFB, Mike Katz, had sent out an email saying that he will ignore the letter from the head of T-Mobile HR, and unvaccinated employees will be placed on unpaid leave beginning on Feb 15th, a week earlier than the rest of the company.

“Over the past few months the President of TFB, Mike Katz has been sending individual emails just to his employees that have applied for an exception/accommodation.  These individual emails are only sent to us, and not even to our managers, directors, or VP.
In his latest email,  he says that he will ignore the letter from the head of T-Mobile HR, and we will be placed on unpaid leave beginning on Feb 15th, a week earlier than the rest of the Company.
I have worked for Sprint / T-Mobile for more than 21 years and I am in the process of preparing for a new job outside of this company.  I am not alone.  I personally know of 6 other co-workers in the same situation all with 20 + years of service and one with over 30 years of service. Please tell the rest of the world what is going on in this company.”

TFB team –

I’m sure you saw Deanne’s mail regarding our company-wide vaccination policy (below). I wanted to follow up to ensure you saw the guidance from the company, strongly reiterate the importance of returning to the office and meeting those vaccination requirement deadlines, and remind you that for our TFB customer-facing roles we have a different vaccination timeline.

Customer-Facing Employees

For TFB customer-facing employees who haven’t uploaded their proof of vaccination to Magenta Pass, we’ve reached out to you separately, and the February 15 deadline we communicated will remain applicable to these roles. Customer-facing employees who remain unvaccinated beyond February 15 and who do not have a pending or approved medical or religious accommodation, or a pending or approved exemption based on state legislation, will be put on unpaid leave on February 15 and if they do not become fully vaccinated and obtain a Magenta Pass by April 2, will be separated from the company.

Since June, we’ve communicated that face-to-face interactions with our customers and colleagues is a mandatory expectation of our customer-facing roles. TFB provides a critical service for our customers and meeting their needs requires the ability to have a regular in-person presence whenever possible – both in our offices as well as in the locations of the customers that we serve. Customer locations are increasingly requiring vaccinations for entry, and as you know, T-Mobile office locations require vaccination for entry. Our customer-facing roles are not remote or virtual jobs – we simply can’t do our best for our customers if we aren’t able to meet with them or our colleagues.

Back-Office Employees

For our back-office employees, I want to reiterate that we’re better when we’re together. That has been proven many times over these last several months. We’re more productive, we get better results, and we get higher-quality outcomes when we’re together. Our ambitions as a team – to be the #1 choice in wireless for our customers – relies on an environment where we can build relationships with each other, rapidly innovate, and provide differentiated experiences for our frontline employees and customers. As I’ve communicated previously, my expectation for resident and hybrid employees is that you’re working from the office more than you’re working remotely. Of course, we’re all going to need more flexibility, but as we’ve seen over the past several months, we have large numbers of employees who are not complying.

Please ensure you have reviewed Deeanne’s email in full – TFB back-office employees who do not upload proof of a first dose of the vaccine by February 21 will be placed on unpaid leave unless they have a pending or approved medical or religious accommodation or state law exception. Employees who remain unvaccinated beyond April 2 and who do not have a pending or approved medical or religious accommodation, or a pending or approved exemption based on state legislation, will be separated from the company. The deadlines in the company-wide email are also applicable to those TFB back-office employees who previously had an “other” exemption.
