YouTube Takes Down Tim Pool’s TIMCAST IRL during Live-Stream, despite “self-censoring”

written by July 29, 2022

Last night, Tim Pool’s TimCast IRL was taken down mid-stream by Tim Pool and subsequently by YouTube.  Pool had Ariel Pink in studio.  Pink is a controversial musician who came under scrutiny for attending the January 6th rally.   He was dropped from his label even though he says he did not go to the Capitol but rather went to “take a nap”.  His label Mexican Summer dropped him days after news that he attended the protest.  Pink tweeted out in a since-removed tweet “Save yourselves friends, cancel me now and turn me in before they come for you.”

During their live stream, Ian Crossland was talking about immigration and a conversation about cancel culture evolved.  Crossland was talking about the Bath party becoming the Taliban, to which Pink rhetorically said “you have to kill them” inferring that it was the only way to stop cancel culture.  Pool immediately took down the stream, knowing that his guest had most likely crossed the line of Big Brother.  He did not, however, take down the stream itself, thinking that taking it down mid-stream would do so on its own.  Plus, with a 30-45 second delay, the rhetorical phrase would have been cut from the broadcast.

There is a section of 47 USC 230 that seems to explicitly address what Pool, and many others, myself included, have done to “censor” themselves (the absurdity of Americans in a “free country” having to censor themselves from Constitutional speech is noteworthy).  In Sec 230, it states:

(2)Civil liability

No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be held liable on account of—

(A)

any action voluntarily taken in good faith to restrict access to or availability of material that the provider or user considers to be obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing, or otherwise objectionable, whether or not such material is constitutionally protected;

It is unclear if Timcast IRL received a strike or not.  But Pool has already said in his after-show that if they do get a strike, they’ll just do the show exclusively on Rumble in the meantime, a smart decision given YouTube’s ability to thwart an entire business such as TimCast simply because a guest muttered a few words, which Pool self-censored anyways.

Tim Pool has 1.32M followers on YouTube and often surpasses mainstream news media’s primetime numbers with his nightly primetime live-streams and short clips from them the following day.  Pool was openly critical of the political situation we are currently living in and was mentioned by Rep. Jamie Raskin during his presentation in the highly-partisan January 6th committee hearings.  He has confessed that he did not vote for Donald Trump in 2016, but says he could not see any good reason not to vote for him in 2020.

While Mr. Pool skates around election fraud, COVID issues, and vaccine mandates on his YouTube platform, he has had on many guests who are aware of these pressing issues including Steve Bannon, Kari Lake, Marjorie Taylor Green, and others.  Perhaps one day on a platform that isn’t dictating “free speech”, Pool will allow someone to show him the actual evidence.

In the meantime, for all of those on “legacy social media”:  have a back up plan.
